Ned and I always argue whether or not Oliver Stone is a good filmmaker. I happen to love him but Ned thinks of him as "a hack." Ned isn't one of them, but too many people judge him without seeing his films. Love him or hate him, he likes to stir up controversy. That's why I was surprised to hear a while ago that he was planning an Alexander the Great biopic. It doesn't seem like his kind of territory. Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet) has also been planning an Alexander film of his own, let's hope he doesn't make Alexander dance or portray him as a gangleader of 1990s Los Angeles or something. As far as who'll be playing Alexander; Stone chose the excellent Colin Farrell (Minority Report) while Luhrmann chose Leo DiCaprio. After hearing recently that Stone's film was put on the shelf I was pleasantly surprised to read in an Entertainment Weekly article that his film is go for launch, ahead of Baz's. Congrats, Oliver.
